Kitchen Cabinet Light Rail Moulding
Kitchen cabinet light rail moulding is a decorative trim piece that is installed along the top of the cabinets. It is typically made from wood or MDF and can be painted or stained to match the cabinets. Light rail moulding can add a touch of elegance to your kitchen and can also help to hide any gaps between the cabinets and the ceiling.
There are several different styles of light rail moulding available, so you can choose one that best suits your kitchen's décor. Some popular styles include:
- Ogee: This is a classic style of light rail moulding that features a curved profile.
- Cove: This style of light rail moulding has a concave profile.
- Bullnose: This style of light rail moulding has a rounded profile.
- Quarter round: This style of light rail moulding has a quarter-circle profile.
Once you have chosen a style of light rail moulding, you will need to determine how much you need. To do this, measure the length of the cabinets that you want to trim. Then, add 1 inch to the measurement to allow for overlap. For example, if you have 10 feet of cabinets, you will need 11 feet of light rail moulding.
To install light rail moulding, you will need the following tools:
- Miter saw
- Brad nailer
- Measuring tape
- Pencil
- Caulk gun
- Caulk
To begin, cut the light rail moulding to length using the miter saw. Be sure to make 45-degree cuts on the ends of the moulding so that they will fit together properly. Once the moulding is cut to length, apply a bead of caulk to the back of the moulding and press it into place along the top of the cabinets. Use the brad nailer to secure the moulding to the cabinets. Be sure to countersink the nails so that they are flush with the surface of the moulding.
Once the light rail moulding is installed, you can caulk any gaps between the moulding and the cabinets or ceiling. Allow the caulk to dry completely before painting or staining the moulding.
Kitchen cabinet light rail moulding is a relatively easy and inexpensive way to add a touch of elegance to your kitchen. With a little time and effort, you can install light rail moulding yourself and enjoy the results for years to come.
