How To Install A New Kitchen Faucet

Replacing a kitchen faucet is a relatively simple plumbing task that can be completed in a few hours. With the right tools and materials, you can save yourself the cost of hiring a plumber. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to install a new kitchen faucet:

Tools and Materials You'll Need:

  • New kitchen faucet
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Basin wrench
  • Plumber's putty
  • Screwdriver
  • Measuring tape
  • Bucket
  • Flashlight

Step 1: Turn off the water supply.

Locate the shut-off valves under the sink and turn them clockwise to turn off the water supply. If there are no shut-off valves, you'll need to turn off the main water supply to your home.

Step 2: Disconnect the old faucet.

Use the adjustable wrench to disconnect the water supply lines from the old faucet. Then, use the basin wrench to loosen the nuts that hold the faucet in place. Once the nuts are loose, you can remove the old faucet from the sink.

Step 3: Clean the sink surface.

Use a damp cloth to clean the sink surface where the new faucet will be installed. Make sure to remove any old sealant or debris.

Step 4: Apply plumber's putty.

Roll out a rope of plumber's putty and apply it to the underside of the new faucet's baseplate. The plumber's putty will help to create a watertight seal between the faucet and the sink.

Step 5: Install the new faucet.

Place the new faucet in the sink and align it with the holes. Use the basin wrench to tighten the nuts that hold the faucet in place. Make sure to tighten the nuts evenly to prevent leaks.

Step 6: Connect the water supply lines.

Use the adjustable wrench to connect the water supply lines to the new faucet. Make sure to tighten the connections securely to prevent leaks.

Step 7: Turn on the water supply.

Turn on the shut-off valves under the sink to turn on the water supply. Check for leaks around the faucet and water supply lines.

Step 8: Inspect the installation.

Use a flashlight to inspect the installation for any leaks. If you find any leaks, tighten the connections or apply more plumber's putty.
